Supernatural is a concept album inspired by the Finnish wilderness and explores how we can mend our broken parts through inner photosynthesis. Diving into the link between light, plants and our sensuality. This is part of an ongoing project focused on the “ecology of emotions”.

Artist statement about Supernatural

“Supernatural is an exploration of the connection between nature, the body and tenderness. A lot of inspiration came from my experience with the trees in the woodlands of Finland in the summer of 2020. I felt a deep connection with them while spending time in the forest, I could almost hear them talk.

I came up with the name Supernatural also as a way to describe my feeling of going through the pandemic. I feel that supernatural is what I have become, a sort of superhero human that has surpassed the boundaries of the natural as a means of extreme emotional survival. And on a bigger scale I feel that is what we are all becoming as a collective, finding our own ways to cope with the hardships we’ve all faced in one way or another.

This feels important for me to share right now because I feel that our society and human collective truly need tenderness and a sense of warmth. Although isolation has led to a need for more connection, the hardships we’ve all gone through have also stiffened some of our emotional states.

It is a way to express how difficult times can be both challenging and foster deeper expansion at the same time. This inner photosynthesis is like a conduit towards mending the loopholes of our emotional bodies. Digging so deeply in our abilities of survival and sustainability that our senses and human capacities almost implode and become a superpower. Like diamonds are formed under tremendously high pressures of heat to become the strongest and most unbreakable material that exists in the world. Our hearts can become this diamond. This primal energy that is found in volcanoes is also found in our bodies. That warmth is the source of our sustainability and our deepest nourishment. It lies in the power of tenderness.

In that warmth we connect with our sensuality and its creative power. Embodying our sensuality is like an homage to existence, when we can allow ourselves to express it in whichever way we feel, it is like a love letter sent to the cosmos and a recognition of our innate divine nature. By deeply connecting with ourselves with tenderness and patience we are able to evolve and develop parts of us that reveal our deepest expression of who we are. And in a sense this feels very important in building a more sustainable society.”

More about the “ecology of emotions”

Since 2018 Wild Anima has been exploring a series of works on the concept of the Ecology of Emotions which started in Iceland with her collaborator, musician Lush Agave (Los Angeles). An artistic and philosophical reflection on current and future emotional processes in relation to nature and society. Supernatural is a culmination of this artistic reflection on the connection between healing, emotions and nature as a whole.

“My work is focused around the relationship of nature and the human psyche. I have been developing conceptual work focused on the Ecology of Emotions and how our emotional healing relates to the environment as a common dialogue of well being both for ourselves and the planet. My idea is that just the way we have developed ways to recycle materials we can learn to deal with our emotional processes in the same manner and develop new ways of coping as a collective and on individual levels.”
