Sacred Sea - Artist interview

Masterplants Orchestra

The Secret Garden offers a refuge— a Cyber-Botanical sanctuary where the listener can reconnect with the earth through the lens of Life-Positive, nature conscious music.

As the human component of Masterplants Orchestra, Tritone utilizes the Beca and MPS-1 biofeedback devices to translate the internal electrical fluctuations of exotic plants into lush, emerald soundscapes.

Every frequency you hear is a direct reflection of the plant’s living electrophysiology, woven into a living ocean of synthesizers and ethereal textures.

How would you describe yourself as an artist? What landscapes, places, or environments have shaped you?

Masterplants: More than anything, what shapes me as an artist is an overwhelming urge to merge with creation itself. to become a creator able to harmonically unfold the purest of creational intents on behalf of something which is greater than the person I appear as.
And to me, the greatest manifestation of that, is nature itself.

Nature is the ultimate everchanging object created by the universe, and being inspired by something not created by humans, something so unbelievably unexplainable as nature and what is beyond  the universe of appearances, seems to be the only way that art can help us expand our minds and perception, which to me is the true purpose of art.
In these times a lot of artistic focus remains intertwined and inspired by the world of thinking related to human activities and I would love to do something else. A gentle musical experiential nudge away from anthropocentric experience. Back into the depth of the unknown truth of nature itself.

How did Masterplants begin — was it sparked by a feeling, a place, or a specific sound? Where did this project physically and mentally take shape?

Masterplants: The idea of Masterplants Orchestra comes from the idea that Plants can be Masters. That they can have the intelligence of a master teacher, which many people like to experience these days by ingesting specific plants and so experiencing new states of consciousness.
In my experience that isn't necessary, because combining Masterplant intelligence with the potential of music and frequencies can certainly create altered states without the need of ingesting any kind of substance. natural or otherwise.
So in a sense the name Masterplants Orchestra could be translated as plant intelligence revealed through music.

Physically the project Began in a Place called Damanhur in Italy, a spiritual community that has a profound philosophy around nature and trees. That’s where we first encountered the plant music and saw the potential to develop it further.

What is your creative process in general?

Masterplants: The first thing I do is always have a big mess of wires and plants on my studio desk. Then I wire up the plants to our plant music devices and take a deep breath (trying not to despair, haha), slow down and become the process. Just letting things be as they need to be. let the becoming act and not get in the way, not getting in the way meaning being aware of my own judgement and let the flow of creation take its place while not disturbing it with my individuality and personal opinions. that usually gives an outcome which i first of all hadn't intended so i find it surprising and amusing. A lot of my practical creative process involves listening to what I am creating and feeling what it evokes in me rather than trying to force my own identity or emotion onto the music. I let the music take me somewhere. If my person is calmed and satisfied with the state of consciousness the music that is being created induces, that is when I know the flow is harmonic. As with plant music in this case we are not trying to create anything that excites. but rather soothes. Which again is the intention of the type of art I want to create, as well as what I see nature create. When applying even a small piece of the supreme harmony of nature to a creative process, the creative process becomes natural.

How does your personal philosophy or worldview show up in your sound?

Masterplants: Well I try to be a learner when I make music, a student, which I guess is the philosophy itself, being open to what nature in me wants to express. Plants have their own electrophysiological systems which ensures that there is always a part of the music that you cannot control, which is a very soothing practice if you accept it.
To invent musical harmonies around the aspect of plant bioelectric signals that is beyond your reach of manipulation. always having that factor of Randomness and playing around that just like in life you gotta play inventively within the game that life constantly throws at you.
So in the type sounds we as an interspecies orchestra make, we try to play harmonically within that framework. To express the harmonic yet living and surprising intentions of nature through music.

How does the natural world influence your work — directly or subconsciously?

Masterplants: The natural world IS our work, I see them as one and the same, so I guess you could say that it's the only influence.
Because we see the deepness of the natural world as all there is, our work as a plant orchestra is an unavoidable extension of that.
Both directly in the actions we take as an orchestra, we record natural sounds and choose sound designs and venues that align with our vision. as well as being open to new subconscious information that arrives from the field of the unknown. Integrating it into the physical manifestation when it needs to.

Are there rituals, habits, or environments that help you enter a creative flow?

Masterplants: Oh definitely. Hermitages always seem to be more conducive to naturally based creativity. The world today is so extremely full of noise, both informational and in sterilized physical spaces that removes us from the nature that has evolved around us and in us for millions of years.
This noise is defined by distorted ideas based on a human ignorance that exists because of the focus on objective reality as opposed to the truth that is our very being and nature itself.
So the physical and internal act of removing myself from the world of human ideas and into the voidfull nature of our inner being and retreating to a peaceful undisturbed physical space is the first ritual if you can call it that. Then also eating raw food and surrounding me with humans that facilitate the creative process, and if i cant do that then try to stimulate creative situations within my immediate experience.

Do you see music as a form of environmental or spiritual communication?

Masterplants: Definitely, but not in the sense of anybody being spiritual or as if a spiritual message has to be maintained there are no rules or anyone enforcing things like that. It happens more in the spirit of unfolding, like a continuous blossoming of sorts. The way a flower is spiritual. The way a flower is integrated into all the natural systems around it. Spiritual in the way of being interlinked and connected with everything, the soil, the water, the air, the insects and the Sun. Now that's spiritual!

What feels sacred to you right now — in music or in life?

Masterplants: The moment! the musical Universe that unfolds right in front of our very eyes is max. sacred! This existence is ablaze with a delicately fierce creativity and sacred vibes to get absolutely consumed by. All it takes is just to immerse yourself and let go for the ride as the sacred takes care of everything already. Start where you are.
